(KLZA)-A Lansing, Kansas man is in custody following an early morning pursuit in eastern Nebraska.
22-year-old Kirby Clifton Jr. is currently in the Lancaster County Jail and faces potential felony charges in Nemaha, Otoe and Lancaster Counties.
According to initial police reports, shortly after 4 o'clock (this) Thursday, an Auburn Police Officer attempted to stop a 1995 Honda Civic for speeding and unlawful display of fictitious license plates. A pursuit ensued through residential and business districts in Auburn and then north along US Highway 75, at speeds in excess of 105 miles an hour while turning its headlights on and off and veering at oncoming traffic.
Upon reaching Nebraska City, the fleeing vehicle turned westbound on Highway 2 where the pursuit was picked up by the Otoe County Sheriff’s Office and later by the Nebraska State Patrol.
The pursuit continued westbound on Highway 2. Near Palmyra, the Nebraska State Patrol successfully deployed a tire deflation device. However, the fleeing vehicle continued driving on its rims until it stopped along Highway 2, about one mile from Lincoln.
Clifton, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was taken into custody.
