(KNZA)--Four people are in jail tonight, following two separate incidents involving the theft of metal in Jackson County.

According to Sheriff Tim Morse, three arrests followed an early evening traffic stop in the southeastern portion of the county.

A deputy stopped a pickup truck around 5:15 Thursday evening on V Road just south of 98th Street, a half mile north of the Shawnee County line.

The three occupants, 57-year-old Cecil E.B. Raines, 55-year-old James Lassen, and 48-year-old Jacqueline Dougan, all of Topeka, were arrested for the theft of metal allegedly taken from a residence on 162nd, near the Jefferson County line.

Raines also faces charges for driving while suspended.

Earlier in the day, the first arrest, in a separate case, was made.

According to Sheriff Morse, his office received a report, just ten minutes before the noon hour, that fencing materials and an air conditioner were stolen from 18830 198th Road, in rural Denison.

Armed with a description of the suspect vehicle, a search was launched; and, at 12:15, that vehicle was located at 6th and Minnesota in Holton.

Arrested was 41-year-old Denison resident Stoney Hards who was booked into the Jackson County Jail for theft.

The items reported stolen were recovered when he was apprehended.

All of the arrests follow a rash of metal thefts in Jackson County.
