Bridge Replacement Project Approved in Highland Area
08/09/2012

( KNZA )--The Doniphan County Commission has given the go ahead for a bridge replacement project north of Highland.
The commission this week approved the replacement of a bridge on Diamond Springs Road with a 16 by 60 foot structure at a total cost of nearly $66,000.
Husker Steel will provided the materials and Norfolk Contracting the labor for the project.
The commission opted to replace the existing structure with a bridge span instead of the previously agreed upon 12 foot tube, saying it’s more feasible and cost effective.
Chris Adelman with Husker Steel said the project would be completed this fall, once the necessary water resources permits through the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Water Resources were obtained.
Adelman also presented cost figures for the replacement of bridge on 150th Road, west of Friendship Road.
The total cost was placed at nearly $116,000 for materials and labor.
No action was taken by the commission.  However, the project will be figured into the 2013 county budget.
Commission voted to hire Husker Steel to remove debris built up along the Wolf River bridge, north of Sparks at a cost of $300 an hour, with a minimum five hour charge.
