( KNZA )--There’s a vacancy on the Hiawatha City Commission.
The commission Monday evening accepted the resignation of Commissioner of Streets and Parks Vicki Denton, effective immediately.
Denton submitted her letter of resignation to City Administrator Lynne Ladner Monday morning. In the letter, Denton said she was resigning for personal and professional reasons. She has been working in Topeka.
Denton had served on the commission since May 2007.
Mayor Crosby Gernon commended Denton for her service on the commission and said she will be missed.
Ladner said the commission has up to ten days to appoint someone to fill her term, which expires in April of next year.
The commission will be taking applications from those interested in filling the position. They plan to interview the candidates at their meeting next Monday and appoint someone at that time.
Those interested in filling the position should contact City Hall.
