( KNZA )--The Sabetha City Commission has approved the hiring of a grant writer for a committee working to raise funds for a proposed new health and wellness center.
Dave Remmers, representing the Sabetha Health and Wellness Committee, appeared before commissioners this week seeking approval to enter into a contract with Barb Baier, a professional grant writer and fundraiser from Lincoln, Nebraska.
According to the Sabetha Herald, the contract calls for an initial retainer of 15-hundred dollars, with an estimate of $50,000 to generate $2.5 million or $80,000 to generate $4 million.
The committee has set a goal to raise $4 million for the estimated $8.5 million dollar project through grants, corporate sponsorships, donations and other means.
Currently, the Health and Wellness Committee has raised $10,000.
The remainder of the project would be funded through a bond issue placed before voters. The timeline to place that issue on the ballot has been pushed back to April 2014 or August 2014, with the exact timeline based on grants and fundraising.
The commission Monday approved the request to enter into a contract with Baier, pending approval of City Attorney Martin Mishler.
