(KNZA)--An Oklahoma City, Oklahoma woman is stopped while driving south of Sabetha, on U.S. Highway 75; and, by the time the traffic stop comes to an end, authorities allegedly discovered around 11 pounds of methamphetamine in her possession(Play Audio)
That's Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill who says Melissa Alvarez is charged with possession of meth with intent to distribute and, due to the amount of alleged meth being over a kilogram, the offense is listed as a drug severity level one felony, based on the new Kansas sentencing grid that became law on July 1st(Play Audio)
The traffic stop was conducted by the Kansas Highway Patrol; and, once the alleged meth was discovered, the federal Drug Enforcement Agency was called in to provide assistance.
Hill says Alvarez remains in the Brown County Jail, held on one-million-dollars bond.
Her preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday.
