Falls City, Fairbury Stay Alive in Legion Tournament

The top two seeds stayed alive Sunday in the losers' bracket of the B1 Area Legion Tournament at Steinhart Park in Nebraska City.

Falls City, the tournament's top seed, held on to beat Auburn 6-5, while number two seed Fairbury beat Nebraska City 5-4 in another elimination game.

Falls City starting pitcher Josh Stoller went five innings to earn the win, while Nick Behrends took the loss for Auburn.  Auburn outhit Falls City, 8-5, with Cal Nichols and Caleb Nelson each collecting two hits for Auburn. Chaz Dunn had two hits for Falls City.

Monday's games have Falls City taking on Fairbury at 5:30 p.m. in an elimination game, and Beatrice playing Hickman in a winner's bracket game at 8:00 p.m.  The winner of the Falls City-Fairbury game will play the loser of the Hickman-Beatrice game at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, with the winner advancing to the championship game Wednesday night.
