(KNZA)--The tactics of a self-proclaimed insurance salesman draws the attention of the Brown County Sheriff's Department, warning residents to be aware of the questionable, but not necessarily illegal, solicitation. A key factor noted by the Sheriff's department is the allegation that when asked for credentials, such as a brochure or business card, the man refuses to provide any such information.
Sheriff John Merchant says his office has received a number of concerns from residents of the Fairview area who have been visited by the man, described as white, in his mid to late 40's, with a heavier build and standing around 6 feet tall.
Reportedly driving a gold or silver-colored Town and Country or Pacifica styled mini-van with Missouri license plates, the man raises concerns due to the way he apparently tries to conduct his sales(Play Audio)
Residents also report that when the man makes the pitch to sale the insurance, he uses the names of neighbors that he claims already made a purchase, and states that they are the ones who recommended his next visit. He also reportedly returns later to the homes of those who did not buy the insurance, and attempts to use high pressure tactics to make a sell.
Merchant says his office, at this point, is simply trying to learn more information about the man so that they can learn who he is and what company he represents.
Anyone with those details are asked to contact the Brown County Sheriff's office at 785-742-7125.
