(KNZA)--Local residents are asked to be alert following what is reported as a residential burglary occurring in rural Hiawatha sometime before noon Wednesday.
The Brown County Sheriff's Department is reporting that over 5-thousand-dollars in property was taken during the crime, committed in broad daylight.
Residents are asked to be aware of suspicious vehicles, people, or activity, and to report such suspicions to local law enforcement.
Residents are also reminded to remove keys from vehicles, atvs, and other such equipment, even if parked in a garage. Locks on homes, outbuildings and storage sheds should also be double checked.
No arrests have yet been made, or suspects named, in connection with Wednesday morning's crime.
