( KNZA )--A group would like to see the road going to Prairie Lake northeast of Holton chip and sealed.
Members of the Kansas Prairie Pickers Association met with the Jackson County Commission Monday to discuss the possibility of chip and sealing 246th Road.
Roy Hallauer said the city of Holton and the Prairie Pickers have made improvements at Prairie Lake over the years and would like to have the road going to the lake improved. The Prairie Pickers Association holds their annual festival at the lake the second weekend in June.
Hallauer asked the commission to consider using a portion of the 4-tenths of a percent sales tax to be designated for road and bridge improvements to chip and seal 246th Road, if the sales tax proposal is approved by voters in the August primary election.
Hallauer said they would also approach the city of Holton about funding the project.
The commission agreed that if the sales tax proposal passes in August, the 246th Road project would definitely be considered.
