(KNZA)-- The 17-year-old Leavenworth boy accused of abducting his ex-girlfriend last week now faces a number of charges in Brown County.
Following the search for the whereabouts of Logan Burris and his 16-year-old ex, Jenna Hord, of Atchison, which included the issuance of an Amber Alert, the pair was located, and stopped, driving through Hiawatha.
Brown County Sheriff John Merchant says it was a citizen that alerted his department last Thursday evening, leading to the discovery of the suspect vehicle by a deputy, who was assisted by the Hiawatha and Horton Police Departments, as well as the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Hord was found safe, and returned to her family. However, she faces Brown County charges including obstruction, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Burris was taken into custody following a short foot chase.
He was quickly apprehended and held in Brown County as details, and jurisdiction issues, were sorted out. He was then turned over to Leavenworth authorities.
Now, Merchant says Burris faces charges for endangering a child; driving while license canceled, suspended or revoked; obstruction; possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in Brown County.
Additional charges are expected in Leavenworth, where police say Burris abducted Hord in the parking lot of a convenience store Wednesday night, forcing her into the passenger seat of her vehicle which he then drove away.
Meanwhile, in a separate Brown County investigation, Merchant says an 18-year-old from Hiawatha has been arrested. Timothy Cooke was taken into custody last Thursday on a charge of sexual exploitation of a child.
Full details of the crime Cooke is accused of are not immediately made public.
