Doniphan County Sweeps Hiawatha on the Road

Behind a couple of heavily offensive games for Doniphan County they came away with a sweep of league opponent Hiawatha in a double-header, last night, winning 13-4 and 10-6.

In game one Doniphan County never trailed taking an early 3-0 lead after plating three runs in the first inning, but after three innings the game would be tied after Hiawatha responded with one-run in the bottom of the first and two in the third.

Doniphan County would get the bats going late in the game again plating eight more runs,  including a four-run inning in both the sixth and seventh innings. Doniphan County not only double Hiawatha's total hits in game one 14-7 but capitalized on five Hiawatha errors in the game.

Dylan Gabriel went the distance for Doniphan County, pitching all seven innings giving up four runs (only two earned) on seven hits and three walks, while striking out 14. He was aided by his own offense and that of his teammates, too. Gabriel went 3-4 with two runs scored, while Cody Bennett also had three-hits, going 3-3 with a double, two runs scored, four RBI and two walks. Sawyer Adkins and Jordan Thornberry each had a pair of hits, while Zach Halter blasted a home-run in the game.

For Hiawatha it was Dakota Bayles and Parker Hasenkamp who had a solid offensive outing in the game one loss. Bayles went 2-2 with a triple and two runs scored, while pitching five innings. Hasenkamp went 2-3 during the game.

Game two was a little bit more even between the two teams as each squad used three pitchers to get through the matchup, but it would a big sixth inning that gave the win to Doniphan County.

Hiawatha had the lead a few times in the game and lead it 6-2 after a five-run third inning, but Doniphan County would get one back in the fourth and then open things up with a decisive seven-run sixth.

Each team finished the game with nine total hits, but for Doniphan County six of those were doubles. The offense was led by Paden Halter and Colton Masters for Doniphan County who both register a multi-hit game.. Halter went 2-3 with a double and two RBI, while Masters was 2-4 with a double and an RBI.

Again for Hiawatha Bayles had another solid offense game going 3-4 with a triple and two RBI, while Taylor Jacobsen went 2-4 with a double and RBI. Josh Hinkle had three RBI on a 1-3 night.
