The Sac and Fox Tribe has donated funding to area fire departments and other emergency agencies who responded to a fire at the Sac and Fox Casino shipping and receiving warehouse on June 20th.
Tribal officials Monday presented $5,000 checks to representatives of the Horton, Kickapoo, Netawaka and Whiting Fire Departments along with the Brown County Rescue Squad. Also receiving donations, but not available for the presentation, were the Morrill and Powhattan fire departments.
In addition, the Horton EMS received an $11,000 donation for equipment and radios.
The fire at the warehouse, which is located across the parking lot to the east of the Sac and Fox Casino along U.S. 75 Highway, is believed to have been caused by lightning. The items inside the building have been determined to be a total loss.
A firefighter, Stephen Ramirez with the Kickapoo Fire Department, was treated at a Topeka hospital for smoke inhalation.
