Hiawatha residents will have additional time to discharge fireworks at the City Lake.
The Hiawatha City Commission voted Monday evening to extend the time that residents can shoot off fireworks until midnight Saturday, July 7th.
Originally, the commission had voted to allow the discharging of fireworks at the City Lake today ( Tuesday ) and Wednesday only.
Mayor Crosby Gernon said he was approached by a resident asking for more time because the 4th of July holiday falls during the middle of the week.
It’s unlawful to discharge fireworks inside the Hiawatha city limits.
