Devine says by the time the victim finds out they’ve been scammed, it’s too late(Play Audio)
Gaining personal information, financial and otherwise, is exactly what the fake email is attempting to accomplish(Play Audio)
Devine says any type of unsolicited email pertaining to tax issues, while seeking personal information, should make the receiver weary.
He says to take no chances and to not respond.
Instead, the IRS should be contacted, along with local authorities.
The IRS does not send unsolicited e-mails, and will never ask for information such as PIN numbers, passwords or related private information.
