Six candidates are vying to become the next Doniphan County Sheriff.
Jason Liechti, a Troy Democrat, filed before the filing deadline Friday. He is the lone Democrat to seek the office.
Liechti will face the winner of a five person primary race in August for the Republican nomination for sheriff.
The Republican candidates include Duston Hansen of Wathena, current Undersheriff Chad Clary of Highland, Highland Police Chief Brandon Whetstine, Gary “ Joe” Frump of Troy and Mark Allen of Highland.
Longtime Sheriff Jerry Dubach announced last month he would not seek re-election after holding the position for 26 years.
