05/21/2012

The Mound City School Board approved a salary increase for the staff when they met last week.  Superintendent Ken Eaton provides details.  ( play audio :20 seconds )
In addition to the salaries going up, preschool tuition and lunch prices are also going up.  Superintendent Eaton said cuts to a grant necessitate the increase for the preschool program.  ( play audio  :12 seconds )
Eaton said this is the first increase for the program since it started.  ( play audio  :15 seconds )
The cost per student in the preschool is $2,652 per year.  The program operates five days a week from 7:45 a-m until 3:45 p-m and is capped at 20 students per year.
Local school officials are never happy about losing control at the local level.  Eaton was especially unhappy about a forced increase in the school lunch price for next year.  ( play audio :38 seconds )
Eaton says the price will be increased the minimum amount possible.  ( play audio  :13 seconds )
Eaton explained the option for the district, which is actually not an option at all.  ( play audio  :10 seconds )
In other business the Mound City Board of Education also approved continuing with the Alternative Center for Educational Services agreement.  The ACES program is in Maryville.
We will have more on the Mound City School Board meeting on Tuesday.
