Auburn Council Discusses Historical Designation

Auburn City Council members heard presentations from Jill Dolberg with the Nebraska State Historical Society and Audrey Mohr with the National Registers of Historic Places concerning the possibility of the City of Auburn attempting to have part or parts of the town designated as an historical district.
Mayor Scott Kudrna said they addressed concerns he had about the various effects of such a designation.  ( play audio  :20 seconds )

Kudrna says the Council heard about the positives such a designation can provide.  ( play audio  :20 seconds ) 
Auburn is considering attempting to create an historic district in the area around the intersection of Highways 75 & 136,  and possibly the Courthouse Square area of Auburn. ( play audio  :42 seconds ) 
Auburn Council members also approved moving forward with submission of a pre-application for a 2012 Citywide owner occupied housing rehabilitation program grant.
The appointments of Dick Hahn to the Keep Auburn Beautiful Committee and Mary Kruger to the Ordinance Committee were approved.  Krugers proposed appointment to the Budget and Finance Committee was not approved by the Council members present.
