The city of Hiawatha will hold their citywide Clean-up Day on Saturday ( May 12th ).
The event had originally been set for last month, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
Residents can take there unwanted items to the county property located at 11th and Pottawatomie Streets from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Spicer Salvage will be at the location to accept air conditioners, tires with rims, iron, metal and batteries.
Tight restrictions will be adhered to at the unloading site—including proof of Hiawatha residency. Each household will be allowed one pickup load, one carload, or one single-axle trailer load. No contractors are allowed, and the city reserves the right to refuse any load.
Unacceptable items include household trash, leaves, grass clippings, tires, paint, oil, gas, hazardous materials, and any material containing Freon except appliances.
Residents are encouraged to take unpainted wood and tree limbs to the burn pit just east of the Quonsets at the Municipal Airport north of town.
