Although it wasn't listed on the agenda, an issue of controversy takes center stage-and gains emotional reaction-during Monday night's meeting of the Horton City Commission.
It was towards what would have been the end of the meeting, during the time set aside for Commissioner comments, that Commissioner Ken Krug addressed a rumor circulating for sometime around the Horton community, involving Mayor Tim Lentz and utility bills owed(Play Audio)
Krug looked to Lentz, who said the best person to answer the question on whether or not he was behind would be City Clerk Candy Schmitt, who sat in attendance(Play Audio)
Following the answer, Lentz let loose, saying he's heard that rumor, along with other city gossip focused on him; and, while he doesn't let it keep him from sleeping at night, he has no problem making the truth public(Play Audio)
Lentz stated that he has been behind in the past, and, like anyone else, pays the late fees associated with the past due bills.
Commissioner Steve Davies said if someone in the community wants to address such issues, they should do it publicly, before the Commission, and not through gossip(Play Audio)
Although there was no ultimate outcome to the discussion, it was noted by the Commissioners that each of their sessions includes a time for public comment, allowing such rumors to be addressed, and handled.
