Formal charges are now filed against the 24-year-old Lancaster man accused of the severe beating of a Horton woman this week.
Matthew Hermreck made his first appearance in Brown County Court Friday morning, and now faces charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Endangering a Child, and Aggravated Burglary.
Attorney Andy Delaney was appointed to represent Hermreck, whose Preliminary Hearing is now set for Wednesday, May 9th.
He remains in the Brown County Jail, held on one-million-dollars bond.
Hermreck was arrested in the early morning hours of Thursday at his Lancaster home, following the beating of the suspect, whose 3-year-old daughter was also injured in the altercation.
According to Horton Police, Hermreck went to the residence and brutally attacked the victim after she opened the door. That happened shortly before 10:45 Wednesday night.
After he fled the scene, the victim and child went seeking help, and were taken to the Horton Community Hospital for treatment.
The child suffered a laceration to the head, but the victim, whose name is not stated in court documents, suffered serious injuries, including broken bones, and was flown to the the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas for further treatment.
Horton Police, the Brown County Sheriff's Department, and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation have been working together in the investigation of the case.
