Unemployment rates declined in all six counties in extreme Southeast Nebraska in March with Richardson and Otoe counties leading the way.
Otoe County had a dip of 9-tenths of a percent to 4.2 percent unemployment in March. In Richardson County, the unemployment rate remains among the highest in the state, but the March figure of 5.6 percent was down 8-tenths of a percent.
Johnson County now has the best unemployment rate in the area at 3.7 percent, which was down 6-tenths. In Pawnee County unemployment dropped 3-tenths to 3.9 percent.
In Nemaha County, Nebraska the unemployment numbers dropped 7-tenths to 5.4 percent and in Gage County a 6-tenths dip in March brought the unemployment figure to 4.5 percent.
Statewide the Nebraska unemployment rate for March was 4 percent, down one tenth of a percent from February. That is the second best unemployment rate in the country behind only North Dakota at three percent.
South Dakota is third at 4.3 percent; Iowa is fifth in the nation at 5.2 percent. Kansas ranks 12th at 6.2 percent, Missouri is 26th with a 7.4 percent unemployment rate.
The unemployment rate for the United States for March was 8.2 percent.
