A local tree expert is urging Hiawatha residents not to panic if leaves are falling off their maple trees.
Doug Grimm with Grimm Gardens says the culprit is very tiny insects called aphids, which suck the juices from the leaves of maple trees, causing them to wither and die.
Grimm says he met this week with about a dozen residents at Second and Miami Streets to look at their maple trees...( play audio )
Grimm says he doesn’t think residents need to treat with insecticides at this time and the trees will come out of it with the help of the ladybug larvae .....( play audio )
Grimm said he believes by the end of May and early June residents won’t even know it happened.
