The case involving longtime Hiawatha Police Sgt. Laura Tollefson is now in the hands of the Kansas Attorney General’s office.
Jeff Wagaman, spokesman for the office of Attorney General Derek Schmidt, confirmed today ( Thursday ) that the A-G’s office has accepted the case for review.
Wagaman said the case was accepted a couple of days ago. He said it’s not known how long the review will take. Wagaman said he could not comment further.
The city announced last week that Sgt. Tollefson had been placed on administrative leave, pending investigation. She was officially placed on administrative leave April 18th. The city hasn't disclosed whether the leave is paid or unpaid.
Tollefson has been with the police department since May 1992.
