An oil spill leads Hiawatha Police to a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident.
At about 1:15 Sunday morning, police discovered that a hit-and-run crash had occurred in the 500-block of Miami Street.
A vehicle had apparently traveled eastbound on Miami and left the roadway, striking a city light pole. The vehicle carried the pole for about one block.
The vehicle’s oil pan was damaged, causing the engine oil to leak onto the pavement. The path of the oil spill led officers to the vehicle on 240th Road, just west of Mallard Road.
The case remains under investigation.
