A 36-year-old Fairview woman is facing charges of attempted first degree murder and aggravated endangerment of a child.

Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill says Tammy Thomas was arrested Friday following an investigation by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

Hill says the investigation was launched last Wednesday after firefighters responded to Thomas’ trailer house located at 213 West Maple in Fairview around 5 that morning after the sheriff’s office received a 911 call reporting gas fumes...( play audio )

According to court documents, Thomas is accused of placing gasoline on the child's bed.

Hill said the child escaped unharmed and the gasoline wasn't ignited.

Thomas made her first appearance in Brown County Court Friday.

A preliminary hearing was set for Wednesday, but Hill expects it will be continued.

Thomas remains in the Brown County Jail on $750,000 bond.

Thomas, previously known as Tammy Meyers and who lived in Robinson at the time, was found guilty in April 1997 by a Brown County jury on a charge of aggravated battery for slashing her daughter's throat.  She was sentenced to 48 months in prison on the charge.
