The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will stock catchable-size rainbow trout in several city ponds and lakes across the state this month.
The schedule is subject to change depending on conditions, and includes several lakes in southeast Nebraska.
The Commission plans to stock 1,400 fish at the Rotary Club Lake in Auburn this Friday and 900 fish at Steinhart Park Ponds in Nebraska City on Saturday.
On March 20, the Game and Parks Commission plans to stock 200 trout at Stanton Lake in Falls City, 300 in the Pawnee City Pond, and 600 in the Humboldt City Park Lake.
Game and Parks officials say trout fishing is an excellent activity for children and families, requiring only a basic rod and reel, hook, worm, and bobber. Small spinners and prepared baits also work well.
Anyone fishing in Nebraska – except residents under the age of 16 – must have a fishing license. A park entry permit is also required for each vehicle entering state parks, recreation areas, and historical parks.
