The Falls City Library and Arts Center is the designated recipient of a $2,500 donation through Monsanto’s “America’s Farmers Grow Communities” program.
The program allows farmers in counties across the country to win $2,500 for their favorite local non-profit organizations. Thomas J. Gist of Rulo was selected as the Richardson County winner last fall and chose to donate the prize to the Falls City Library. (play audio :26)
Gist says he spends a lot of time at the Library, so it was an easy decision to make.
Library Director Hope Schawang says they plan to use the money to try and increase Library usage among rural area residents. (play audio :41)
Schawang says many rural residents from Richardson County, as well as Kansas and Missouri, use the Falls City Library. (play audio :21)
Falls City residents pay for the Library’s operating budget through their property taxes.
Monsanto representative Jeff Frerichs was at the Library Wednesday to present a ceremonial, oversized, check to Schawang and members of the Library Board.
