Richardson County Commissioners conducted a public hearing drawing no public comment on the One and Six Year Road Plan Tuesday. Following the hearing the Board approved the plan as presented by Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert.
The top priority of the plan is to complete the hard-surfacing of the Preston Road. There are 39 priority projects on the list ranging from bridge work and replacement to new roads and hard surfacing of roads. The Airport Road which is East 21st Street on the east side of Falls City is included on the list but is not one of the priority projects.
The Richardson County Board also met with Nemaha County, Nebraska Board members regarding services of Richardson County’s Highway Superintendent, Scott Huppert assisting employees of Nemaha County while they are in the training process to meet the criteria and regulations as a responsible charge person for Nemaha County.
The Boards agreed that an interlocal agreement for this service needs to be drafted for each Board to consider.
Tami Bents represented the Village of Verdon to request improvements, including gravel being placed on 645 Avenue running Northwest of Verdon to the Village water wells. Commissioners suggested the Village Board contact Southeast Nebraska Development District to inquire what grant funds or assistance may be available for such a project.
Commissioners did open bids for the sale of surplus property and a number of bids were accepted while others were rejected.
Commissioners approved the purchase of the VHF Radio equipment from Midwest Mobile of St. Joseph in the amount of $1,400. Funds from the STOP program will be used to pay for the equipment. The purchase order for a new pickup for the Sheriff’s Office was also reviewed.
It was also noted that a Nebraska Crime Commission inspection found the Richardson County Jail to be in full compliance for juvenile detention.
Dan Wittwer met with the Board to discuss recent action on the removal of closed bridges. On the recommendation of County Attorney Bob Meyer, Commissioners voted to advertise for sealed bids for the sale and removal of four closed bridges in Richardson County.
