USD 415 Board Approves School Calendar Change

Hiawatha school district students will be getting out of school two days earlier than had been scheduled at the end of the current school year.
Superintendent John Severin said the school board Monday evening approved the school calendar change, subject to the district not having any or few snow days.
Under the change, May 22nd would be the last day of school for students, which is two days before they were scheduled to end school.
May 23rd would be a teacher work day and May 24th-25th would be professional days that staff would work on the common core standards.
In other business, the board adoption a school calendar for next school year. 
The first day of school will be August 21st and the last day of school May 23rd, 2013.
Spring break will be held March 25th through the 29th.
Severin said the calendar was favored by teachers from among two considered.
