Four additional candidates for the new Doniphan County road and bridge supervisor’s position will be interviewed.
After reviewing the applications on file for the position, the county commission Monday asked County Clerk Peggy Franken to schedule interviews with the candidates.
The commission interviewed one candidate February 1st.
Franken said the remaining candidates will be interviewed during the commission’s regularly scheduled Monday meeting’s, beginning February 27th.
In other business, the commission voted to enter into an agreement with Schwab-Eaton Engineers to provide design and engineering services for the Castleton Road overlay project.
The project is currently enrolled in the Federal Funds Exchange Program through the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The commission reviewed correspondence from Northeast Kansas Environmentalist and Solid Waste Coordinator Dennis Foster regarding mediation between the county and Kansas Department of Health and Environment on violations at, and pending closure, of the county’s construction and demolition landfill.
Foster was unable to mediate a settlement and the county must comply with current regulations and pay the imposed penalty, or proceed with closing the construction and demolition landfill and apply the imposed fine toward closure costs.
The commission took no action.
