(KNZA)--The Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education has approved the sale of the former Summerfield elementary school building and surrounding property to the community for one dollar.
Superintendent Todd Evans presented a letter to the board Monday evening from the city expressing their interest in purchasing the property, and the board approved the transaction.
The city stated in the letter that they hope the building can be made available to a community college or tech school. If that opportunity fails, the city said parts of the structure could be used as a community activity center.
The elementary school was closed at the end of the 2013-14 school year and students are now attending school at Axtell.
In other business, the Board approved a calendar for next school year.
The first day of school will be August 20th and the last day will be May 19th.
