(KTNC) - Nebraska State Treasurer Don Stenberg recognized Johnson-Brock High School students who placed first in the statewide Personal Finance Challenge, during a visit to the school Thursday morning.
The Johnson-Brock team included seniors Brandie Westhart, Curtis Karel, and Nick Behrends. Their teacher is Sylvia Smith. Each student received a two thousand dollar Nebraska Educational Savings Trust scholarship. West Point Beemer was second in the competition, and Burwell was third.
Stenberg urged students to learn all they can about personal finances to become financially responsible adults, and to not spend more than they earn.
In addition to winning the state competition, the Johnson-Brock team ranked 13th out of 20 teams that participated in the national Personal Finance Challenge, May 2nd in St. Louis.
