Husker Volleyball Coach Pleased With Opening Weekend for Team with Big Goals
(KLZA) The Nebraska volleyball team moved up to No. 1 in the latest AVCA Coaches poll released Monday afternoon. The Huskers, who improved to 3-0 over the weekend and upset defending NCAA Champion UCLA, had a total of 1,488 points and earned 32 of 60 first-place votes.
The ranking represented the 83rd week that Nebraska has been ranked No. 1 in the poll. Since 2001, the Huskers have been ranked No. 1 for 50 weeks, including holding the top spot nationally for the entire 2006 season and for 15 weeks during the 2005 season. The last time Nebraska was ranked No. 1 was on October 24, 2011.
Texas holds the No. 2 pot with 1,481 total points and 24 first-place votes. UCLA dropped to third with 1,344 points and one first-place vote, while Penn State is fourth, notching 1,322 points and one first-place vote. Southern California rounded out the top-five with 1,254 points and two first-place votes.
