Unemployment rates dropped in all counties in extreme Southeast Nebraska for the month of April.
Pawnee County had the biggest dip of 8-tenths of a percent to 3.1 percent. Unemployment rates dropped 6-tenths of a percent in Richardson, Nemaha, Gage and Otoe counties and 4-tenths if Johnson County.
For the month of April the unemployment rates were 5 percent in Richardson County which is still tied for fifth highest in the state. 5.1 percent in Nemaha County, the fourth highest rate in the state, 3.3 percent in Johnson County, 3.9 percent in Gage County and 3.7 percent in Otoe County.
Statewide the unemployment rate for April was 3.9 percent, the lowest figure since December, 2008. The national average for April was down a tenth to 8.1 percent.
Nebraska had the second lowest unemployment rate in the U.S. for April behind the 3 percent figure for North Dakota.
Just over one million people are working in Nebraska with 39,578 looking for work in April.
