A "Wonderful Wonderful" Fair Kicks Off in Humboldt with Coronation of 2012 Royalty
(KTNC) - Gusty winds and the threat of rain did not deter a large crowd from enjoying the opening night of the Richardson County Free Fair and Humboldt Fall Festival Wednesday Night.
The highlight Wednesday night was the naming of the 2012 Fair Royalty. Tecumseh native and former Husker football player Matt Davison announced the Queen. (play audio :05)
Toni Kean is a senior at Falls City Sacred Heart, and is the daughter of John and Kelly Kean of Salem.
Reba Burgett was the first runner-up, Paulina Smith was the 2nd runner-up, Jamie Wilhelm was the 3rd runner-up, and Shelby Werts was the 4th runner-up.
The 2012 Fair Royalty was completed with the naming of the King. (play audio :06)
(as said) Ken Kuhlman was named the 2012 King.
The Humboldt Chamber of Commerce Board selects the King, while the buying public votes for the Queen at Humboldt area retail stores.
The program began with the naming of the Humboldt Woman of the Year. This year’s Woman of the Year is former longtime Humboldt City Clerk and Mayor Mildred Vandeventer.
The evening concluded with, the “Loren Swelk Show” – a take-off of the Lawrence Welk program – centering on the Fair theme, “It’s a Wonderful, Wonderful Fair.”
The Richardson County Free Fair continues through Saturday, with parades at 11:00 a.m. each day, free musical acts on the stage, exhibits in the Ag Building, an antique tractor and gas engine show, and carnival rides and games around the City Square Park.
