Humboldt Council Considering Increasing Penalty for Barking Dogs
04/05/2012

Humboldt residents whose dogs bark too much may face increased penalties.  The City Council Tuesday authorized City Attorney Vic Faesser to draft a resolution to amend the waiver schedule for barking dogs.
Currently, the fine for barking dogs in Humboldt is $25 for all offenses.  Under the proposed changes, the fine would increase sharply to $50 for a first offense, $100 for a second offense, and $200 for a third offense.
In other business this week, the Humboldt City Council authorized the City Attorney to file suit in District Court against owners of two properties that have been deemed nuisance properties.
City officials say the owners of properties at 432 Nemaha and 321 West Square have either not responded to correspondence from the city, or have not taken sufficient steps to fix their properties.
The city plans to contact the property owners to see if they would be interested in turning their properties over to the city, before legal action is taken.
