Hiawatha Scholar's Bowl Teams Travel to Holton

On Thursday, December 19, the Hiawatha High School JV and Varsity Scholar’s Bowl teams traveled to Holton for an 8 team, seven round, round-robin tournament. In competition, the JV team finished with a 7-0 record, and the varsity squad finished 6-1, which earned each team a first place finish. Nolan Sump, head coach for the team, was impressed with the results. "the JV team has continued to shine this year with their strong knowledge of social studies, language arts and science questions. It's been exciting to see them prosper and build their self-confidence as a team and, individually, for each team member to buzz in." Regarding the varsity team, Sump was happy for their success. "We fielded a different team than what usually attends, and with the five team members, we were able to maintain the lead at the end to win the majority of the rounds. Among our strengths in social studies and science, having a team member who knows plenty about sports definitely helped us in competition at this meet." The team's next meet will be a varsity meet on January 13 at Maur Hill-Mount Academy. Team members for varsity match included: Gavin Noll, Dana Howard, Paige Mueller, Gabe Joslin, and Gus Smith For the JV Squad: Elijah Joslin, Henley Shoemaker, Max Smith, Kinley Noll, Chance Rudder, and Ashley Moraleda
