Hiawatha Middle School Students Design Therapeutic Toys

HMS design and modeling students finished their unit on designing and constructing a therapeutic toy. Students listened to Dr. Kendra Oldridge introduce her career as an occupational therapist and how she utilizes toys to help with therapy goals. Kendra helped students understand movements such as pincer grasp so they were able to create a toy that meets specific goals. The students then chose a child profile and designed a toy especially for them and their goals. They did a great job!
