ROAD & BRIDGE DEPARTMENT

Full-time Road & Bridge Crewman in Horton:
Brown County is accepting applications for a full-time Road and Bridge Crewman for District 2-Horton.  Responsibilities include: Working with District Foreman to maintain roads, bridges and culverts.  Must be able to operate heavy equipment.  CDL preferred.  Drug testing is mandatory.  Position pays $17.25/hour negotiable based on experience and/or certifications.  Position also includes an excellent benefit package.  An application can be downloaded at https://www.brcoks.org/ and submitted to Brown County Road and Bridge Department, 601 Oregon Street, Suite 106, Hiawatha, KS  66434.  Position open until filled.  Brown County is an EOE.

SOLID WASTE AND/OR NOXIOUS WEED DEPARTMENT

Full-time Landfill Assistant position:

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Landfill Assistant works under direct supervision of the Landfill Director.  The position requires operation of heavy equipment including, but not limited to backhoe, cat-track loader, shag tractor or semi.   The position will be required to work a minimum 40 hour work week with a Saturday morning rotating schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Landfill Assistant will be expected to work outside in all weather conditions.  The candidate will be exposed to unpleasant odors.  The assistant will also be expected to run heavy equipment, able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs,  pick up blown trash around the Solid Waste Station, tarping and untarping trailers which calls for climbing 14 ft. off of the ground, along with other daily duties, which may include operating the scales, using a computer, copier, telephone, and calculator.
The Landfill Assistant must meet the public and be prepared to deal with difficult situations.
As Landfill Assistant, the candidate will be trained on all rules and regulations pertaining to the State of Kansas and the Brown County Solid Waste Station.

Full-time Solid Waste/Noxious Weed Director position:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Solid Waste/Noxious Weed will be responsible for all full-time and part-time employees of both departments.  The Director duties will include Budget responsibilities, delegation of tasks to employees, acknowledge all KDHE and safety laws and regulations, compliance of permits, oversee billing, complete all training and certification requirements, inspections, commercial & annual applicator requirements including chemical regulations, maintain County and KDOT Right of Way within Brown County.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Solid Waste/Noxious weed director will be expected to work outside in all weather conditions, and will be exposed to unpleasant odors.  The Director will be required to keep up to date on all State KDHE regulations and complete all training requirements to keep Brown County in compliance.  The Director will be expected to run heavy equipment, able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs, climb to tarp trailers, maintain a valid driver’s license, and other duties as directed by the Commissioners.
