Bill Max Shell, 79, of Atchison, Kansas, passed away in his home surrounded by family on Monday, September 22, 2025.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday October 1, 2025, at First Christian Church in Atchison, Kansas, with Rev. William Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to Brain Tumor Network or to First Christian Church to benefit Dinner Church and can be sent in care of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Bill, son of Chester and Jo Shell, was born on November 26, 1945, in Atchison, Kansas, and graduated from ACCHS in 1964. He worked as a welder at WeMac Manufacturing. Bill married JoAnn Healey in 1965 and had two daughters, Jill and Amy; they later divorced. He married Rhonda Mercer on February 7, 1987, they were married for 38 years. Bill loved his coon dogs, coon hunting, fishing, mowing his lawn, watching NASCAR races and Chiefs football games.
Bill is survived by his wife, of the home, daughters Jill (Kenneth) Callaway, Cummings, Kansas, and Amy (Randy) Funk, Atchison, Kansas, grandchildren Cody, Abbey, Kelsey, Rebecca, Colton, and Wyatt, and eight great-grandchildren. Bill is preceded by his parents and sister Karen Beightel
