Kathleen F. "Kate" Clary Lafferty passed away September10, 2025.
Kate was born on October 8,1939 to Boyd and Emma Murphy Clary. Kate attended all 12 years in the Troy school system graduating in 1957. She lived in Tallahasee Florida working for Howard Johnsons. She then moved to California working in hospitality. In 1981 she joined the Marriott International Airport Division and retired in 1990. While in California she married Bill Lafferty and became step-mother to his six children. They were married for 25 years until his death in 1989.
Upon the death of her husband, Bill, Kate returned to family and friends in Troy. She then began the career of her life, caring for children. Her first child to care for was Thomas Haggerty of Troy who remained a very special person in her life. He was followed by many children who all became what she called her "kids". She treasured watching their lives develop. This career gave her life purpose and she was grateful for the opportunity to be part of their lives.
Kate valued her faith, family and friends. Due to failing health, she was unable to attend church services physically, or get out much. However, her phone became her lifeline. She watched church services online, and kept up with family and friends, via texts and phone calls.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, Bobby Gene, Boydie W., Leonard and Mark H. "Hoot" Clary and step-children Joyce Crowder and Billy Lafferty.
Survivors include four step-children, numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
