Vera L. Updike, 83, of Falls City, NE, passed away September 11, 2025 at St. Joseph, MO. She was born April 13, 1942 at Madison, WI to William and Dorothy (Tuschen) West.

She married Kenny Updike on May 20, 1975 at Ralston, NE.

Vera was raised in Madison and graduated from Madison East High School in 1960. Following graduation, she worked at Oscar Mayer. She then enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 13, 1961 at Milwaukee, WI. She was honorably discharged on August 30, 1963 at Offutt Air Force Base.

Following her discharge, she worked at AT&T until 1982 when she was then hired to run the retirement fund in Denver for U. S. West until her retirement in 1997. The couple then moved to Oklahoma where she worked for a CPA for six years. Following her retirement, she was a frequent speaker at conferences across the United States speaking about her time at U. S. West. The couple moved to Falls City in 2016. She enjoyed visiting casinos, fishing, flowers, gardening and was an excellent cook.

Vera is survived by her husband, Kenny of Falls City, children, Brad Miller and his wife Teresa of Columbus, WI, Terri Hogue and her husband Don of Falls City, brother Tom West and his wife Mary of Lodi, WI, sister, Jean Lange and her husband Darryl of Montello, WI, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Kohen Hogue.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Pastor David Showalter officiating.
