Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home in Atchison
Atchison, KS

Brittany Leighann Kearney, passed away on August 25, 2025. She was a true fighter through her journey with cancer, and her strength and positive attitude will always be remembered.

Brittany was born on September 18, 1989, in Atchison, KS, and is a graduate of Doniphan West High School, class of 2008, and attended Highland Community College. She worked at Country Mart in Atchison during her school years. She began with the Atchison County Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher for seven years before joining DCF as a Human Services Assistant, where she was currently employed.

She married Ryan Kearney on June 22, 2019, amidst the heaviest down pour rains you could imagine. They have enjoyed their time together raising a large garden and canning, riding their side by side anywhere you can imagine and enjoying the peace of sitting on the patio overlooking the countryside. She loved Ryan, but her dog, Luna, was a very close second. She enjoyed listening to music, sometimes maybe too loud, and always favored George Strait. She got into making crafts, and depending on her current mood, enjoyed creating cups, shirts, signs and really anything she could think up. She was a true Chiefs fan and was always happy to spend time with her family and friends. One of Brittany's favorite qualities was if you need to be "told off" she would be the first to let you know! Her quick wit and personality will never be forgotten by her friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Ryan Kearney; her parents, Shannon and Darrin Jantz; her in-laws, Tony and Linda Kearney; her grandparents, Les and Joyce Crossland; her siblings, Terrance Crossland, Skylar Crossland, Michael Jantz, Matthew Jantz; and her numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Charlie and Julie Staudenmaier, and Ron Hager.

Brittany's life will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with a reception to follow at the Elk's Lodge. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, Sep. 1st, from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation care entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Memorials may be left to the Atchison Humane Society or the University of Kansas Health System, to be designated to assist families through cancer treatments in care of the funeral home.
