Evelyn Joyce Shoemaker, 87, of Hiawatha, Kansas formerly of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Amberwell Hospital in Hiawatha, Kansas.

She was born on July 11, 1938, in Everest, Kansas the daughter of G.A. "Ed" and Edith Schober Young. Evelyn graduated from Robinson High School and then she married Vic Shoemaker on December 24, 1960.

Evelyn and Vic owned and operated the Horton Greenhouse for over thirty- three years working side by side and enjoying their customers and the floral and greenhouse business. Evelyn enjoyed traveling with Vic in their spare time, visiting thirty-three states and Canada. She enjoyed riding motorcycles and especially spoiling her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Vic Shoemaker of Hiawatha, Kansas, son, Lamar Shoemaker of Willis, Kansas, daughter, Christina Shoemaker of Moundridge, Kansas, four grandchildren, Jake Shoemaker, Trevor Jost, Becky Wahwasuck and Dugan Shoemaker and nine great grandchildren, cousin, Marvin Young of Quenemo, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Carla Shoemaker.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at the Claytonville Cemetery Northeast of Horton, Kansas.

Friends may call on Thursday at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Evelyn Shoemaker memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
