Barbara Sue Pratt, 86, of Hiawatha, KS, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, on what would have been the birthday of her beloved husband, Alvin Pratt. Marking a reunion that surely brought joy to heaven.
Barbara was born on September 15, 1938, in Barada, Nebraska, to Ward and Juanita Runyan. She was the youngest of four siblings; Connie ,Janet and Thomas, and spent her childhood surrounded by the love and liveliness of small-town life. She graduated from Falls City High School.
On November 18th, 1955, she married Alvin Pratt in Falls City, Nebraska. Barb and Al shared a marriage filled with true friendship and laughter. They raised two children, Lynn and James, and built a life centered around love, community, and shared joy. Alvin was known in town as a plumber and together they owned and operated The Weeping Willow Inn in Barada, where their warm hospitality, humor, and love of life were felt by all who came through the doors.
Barb had a flair for the finer things, always dressed in the latest fashion and adorned in her favorite jewelry. She was sharp at the card table, too, particularly when playing Black Jack. She and Al especially enjoyed traveling, Las Vegas being a favorite annual destination, and dancing their way through life's celebrations.
But above all, Barb was most proud of her family. She was a fiercely loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She lit up when talking about them and poured her heart into every role she held, whether it was preparing their favorite meals, cheering them on from the sidelines, or trying, mostly unsuccessfully, to get them to behave.
Barbara's legacy is one of style, spirit, and strength. She leaves behind countless memories with her family of a life fully lived.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Alvin; brother Tom, and sister-in-law Irma Runyan; sister Connie and brother-in-law Delane Goddard; sister Janet and brother-in-law Sterling Sailors; nephew Terry Sailors; son-in-law Mike Motsinger; along with many dear and lifelong friends
She is survived by her daughter Lynn Motsinger, Hiawatha; son Jim (Bonnie) Pratt, Hiawatha; niece Melody Stittsworth, Apple Valley, MI; grandchildren Mitch (Jenny) Brown, Hiawatha; Nick Pratt, Hiawatha; Logan Pratt, Stevens Point, WI; Michaela Brown, Lenexa, KS; and Steve (Nicole) Pratt, Stevens Point, WI. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren Nolan, Brendan, Mallory, Maddox, Jett, and Hazel.
A visitation will be held Friday, August 15th from 6-8 p.m. at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha, KS. Funeral services will take place Saturday, August 16th at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Steele Cemetery in Falls City, NE. Shane Spangler will officiate.
