John James Halling, age 94, of Denton, KS, passed peacefully with family by his side on August 5, 2025.

A Con-celebrated Mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church at Good Intent with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. A rosary will be on Sunday, August 10th at 5:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation following until 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be left to St. Louis Cemetery or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Funeral care entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

John was born on April 26, 1931, in Denton, KS, the son of Bernard L. "B.L" Halling and Julia (Horsch) Halling. He attended Mt. Vernon School District 67 south of Denton. John served the United States Army with the Heavy Mortar Co. 17th infantry Regiment APO 7 during the Korean War from February 26, 1952, until his honorable discharge on November 25, 1953. John received the Koren Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

John returned to the family farm and carried on with his farming career and was a subcarrier for the mail service. He met Dorothy Marie Hanway and they were married on November 23, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Joseph, MO, and have spent nearly 68 years of marriage together. He and Dorothy are the oldest members of St. Louis Church at Good Intent. He is a former 3rd Degree KoC, was a lifetime member of V.F.W. and American Legion and was a member of the Kansas Farm Bureau and formerly the Hiawatha Elks Lodge. He enjoyed square dancing, going to the casinos, playing cards and traveling. John cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren through his long, blessed life.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Halling; children, Tom (Leisa) Halling, Denton, KS, Philip (Jane) Halling, Lancaster, KS, Mary Ann (Melvin) Massey, Denton, KS, Laura (Tony) Bell, Marion, AR, Angela (Joe) Zepeda, El Dorado, KS; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one on the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Irene Halling, Lucille Haupt, Adelaide Walters, Annie Cipriano, his twin - Betty Johnson, Julieann Elias; and brothers, Bernard, Peter, Robert, Luke and infant, Joseph Halling.
