Obituaries Announcements
Lois Jean (Pendland) Allen, of Morrill, was born September 18, 1939 to Samuel Clayton and Ruby Mae (Walker) Pendland. She was welcomed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on July 30, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Jean grew up on a farm outside of Woodlawn, Kansas with her 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She attended Oneida School where she met Roger in 7th grade, and their love story began. They attended school and church together until Jean moved to Denver, Colorado. At the end of their Junior year, Roger got on a bus and moved to Denver to be with Jean. He lived with her grandma until they were married in December of 1956.
After welcoming three children in Colorado, the Allens moved to Oneida, Kansas where they later settled in Sabetha, Kansas. Jean worked as a dental assistant for over 30 years while raising Rhonda, Rick and Ryan.
Jean had an incredible gift of hospitality and generosity. Even in the most difficult times, the Allen house was a welcoming place to family, friends, missionaries, pastors, musicians, and you. No one was a stranger to Jean; a legacy that has touched the lives of so many, and is continued through her kids and grandkids.
In her later years, you couldn't spend more than a minute with Jean without hearing about her great-grandkids. While her grandchildren often argued about who her favorite was (spoiler alert: they all were), Jean's great-grandchildren were her greatest treasure.
Jean is survived by her children, Rhonda (Don) Wikle, Rick (Kristi) Allen, and Ryan (Paula) Allen; sister Edith (Francis) Aeschilman; grandchildren Celeste (Casey) Votruba, Nicole Feltes, Skylar Wikle, Ashley (Nathan) Aucker, Kody Allen, Kayla (Tim) Rotola, Brett (Ellie) Allen, and Konnor Allen. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger; parents; siblings, Bob, Kenny, Leon, Lauren, and Ruthie Pendland, and Doris Hall.
Visitation will be held at Crossroads Wesleyan Church in Sabetha on Friday, August 8 from 5-7:30pm.
A service to celebrate Jean's life will be held at Crossroads Wesleyan Church on Saturday, August 9 at 10am. Pastor Andy Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at the Sabetha Cemetery.
Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha from 12 noon until 5 p.m. Thursday and after 12 noon Friday at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church.
In lieu of flowers, because of Jean's devoted love and passion for the local church, donations can be made to Roger and Jean's Dream, Crossroads Wesleyan Church, sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 124 S 7th St., Hiawatha 66434.
