Richard “John” Lewis Slama

Richard "John" Lewis Slama, 79, of rural Humboldt, Nebraska was born on December 13, 1945, in Humboldt, Nebraska to Joseph and Alberta (Nettlebeck) Slama. He was raised on the family farm east of Humboldt where he attended Hazel Dell Country School District #13 and later attended Humboldt High School. On March 7, 1964, John was united in marriage to Beverly Rowe by Rev. Ward Merritt. To this union two children, Richard and Jodi, were born. The couple raised their family on the Slama family farm east of Humboldt. John started farming at an early age after his father passed away and continued growing his successful farming operation over the years.
John passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at his home in rural Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of seventy-nine years, five months, and twenty-six days. He was preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Bev Slama of rural Humboldt, children: Rick Slama and wife Kim of rural Humboldt, Jodi Slama of Alexandria, VA; grandson: Ian Slama and his wife Jessica of Columbus, NE; twin brothers: Joe Slama of Humboldt and Tom Slama of Lincoln, his sister Cathy George and her husband Ray of Roanoke, VA; and many other relatives and friends.
A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date at the Mound (Prospect) Cemetery in rural Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska. Family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Bruun Memorial Library Fund.
