Lt. Col. William Henry Wolvington, (US Army Ret.) age 77, of Atchison, Kansas, died peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2025.
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict Church with Fr. Luke Turner, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, May 23rd from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Memorials may be left to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the charity of your choice.
Bill was born on June 22, 1947, in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Charles and Clara Long. He is a graduate of Frankford High School in Philadelphia and earned his BA of Industrial Art from Penn State and his MA in Business Administration from Webster University.
Bill married Patrica Ann McDevitt on June 21, 1969, at St. David's Church in Willow Grove, PA, and they were blessed with nearly fifty-six years of marriage.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army for twenty-three years, earning the rank Lt. Colonel. They relocated eighteen different times throughout his tenure, including overseas and he especially loved his time in Germany. He was honorably discharged on August 31, 1992, and continued as a defense contractor for twenty more years until his retirement.
He was a talented wood carver, enjoyed repairing antique clocks, working with model trains and was an outdoor enthusiast. He established and maintained beautiful flower gardens around his home and took great pride in his family.
Bill will always be remembered by his wife, Patty Wolvington; his children, Christina Jackson (Cory), Jason Wolvington (Stephanie); a sister, Diane Samuel; two grandchildren, Bethany Niemackl (Mason), Brendan Wolvington; and eleven great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jane Willard.
